Similar to other countries, to practice in Australia all nurses need to get registered with the nurse’s board in particular state. This is mandate for all nurses.
In Australia there are 8 nursing boards acting as regulatory bodies for the particular states in Australia. To get registered in these states all applicants need to meet the nursing board requirements.
Registrations Process & Requirements
Registrations are two types:
- Initial Application for Registration as nurse (For all applicants)
- Application under Mutual Recognition as a Nurse (For applicants who already have registrations in other state of Australia and willing to get register in other state)
General Eligibility for Overseas Nurses:
- Should be qualified registered nurse in any of the English Speaking countries
- Should have IELTS 7.0 band in all modules or ‘B’ grade in OET
- At least 12 months Experience required as Registered nurse
Registration Process for UK, Ireland, Canada, and US Nurses:
- All applications will be assessed by the Nursing board
- Will issue the registration if the applicants are meeting the nursing board requirements
Note: From 1 July 2009, all overseas nurses from non-English speaking countries should meet board English language requirements to secure registration.
